Alternative medicine mania

Alternative medicine research started with our fore fathers. Most of the alternative methods of treatment that have become a popular trend in today’s society were actually traditional methods that are now being improved through modern alternative medicine research. At the time, it was not referred to as ‘alternative’ because to have an alternative method, you need to have a conventional method. Alternative medicine refers to a method of healing that is not practiced at medical institutions. Any method not taught at medical school is considered alternative or complimentary.

Therapeutic massages, folk medicine and faith healing all fall under the bracket of alternative medicine. There are a variety of these alternative medicines that bear a promise of working magic where conventional medicine has failed to work. Homeopathy, acupuncture, yoga, herbology, and probiotics are some of these complementary methods that are used with or in place of conventional medicine.

However, it is advisable that people find out exactly what the type of alternative medicine they decide to employ entails; thus, if it has any side effects and if it involves the use of substances, what the substances are made of. Some people are making a killing selling fake substances in the guise of alternative medicine practitioners to unsuspecting people.

Not all alternative methods are quackery. Research in books and internet can give you valuable information about different kinds of alternative medicine. Most of the time, we use alternative medicine without even realizing. A good example is when we use egg yolk as face musk or taking chicken soup when feeling sick.
